Memorable Experience BY: ALISON WILSON, Brisbane Chamber Director Marketing / Sales alison@brisbanechamber.org, 415-640-9875 Walking into the newly remodeled DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton I was greeted with a complimentary bottle of water and a warm chocolate cookie! JD Smith, General Manager, came out to meet and escort me to his office. During the interview I commented on the hospitality of his reception staff; he replied with a simple thank you and to share the fact he wants every guest that walks through the doors to also have a memorable experience.” We conversed about the history of DoubleTree and its tradition of welcoming all of their guests with a warm chocolate chip cookie. I learned that philanthropist Samuel F. Kitchell, in 1969, bought a motel and rebranded it the DoubleTree. His vision was to provide the ultimate experience for travelers while building relationships and community. He and his staff visited each room giving guests chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk. Today DoubleTree is part of Hilton – it offers a guest reward program (Honors®) at more than 375 gateway cities, metropolitan areas and vacation destinations worldwide. Smith graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and earned a second degree from the University of Utah in Political Science. I learned that Smith understands people and the importance of transparency. We spoke on the importance of listening and meeting, or exceeding, both guest and staff expectations. Smith has received various awards for his management, community building and fiscal responsibility. He was nominated three times for “Convention Services Manager of the Year” by Successful Meetings Magazine and received DoubleTree’s prestigious CARE Award for Community Service. His working career as General Manager has included The Pointe Hilton Resorts, American Golf Corporation, Embassy Suites, DoubleTree Santa Monica and DoubleTree Del Mar. We spoke about the Brisbane DoubleTree that features 210 rooms along with event facilities totaling 4,219 square feet for meetings, weddings and company parties. WhiteCaps Restaurant and Bar serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a vibrant lounge. In conclusion Smith said, “Working with the Hilton brand reflects my core values in building business and community relations. I want to be an integral part of the local and corporate community. I am excited about being a member of the Brisbane Chamber Board and doing everything I can to help in the community.” The DoubleTree by Hilton San Francisco Airport North hotel is located at 5000 Sierra Point Parkway. Summit Hotel Properties is owner of the property and is managed by Stonebridge Hospitality. JD can be reached via telephone at 415.467.4400 or by e-mail JD.Smith@Hilton.com. You can find the DoubleTree on social media and online at http://doubletreesfo.com/ Please take the time to drop over to Sierra Point and welcome JD Smith to Brisbane.

This weekend was an excellent and exhilarating one in Brisbane as it marked the City hosting its inaugural LUNAFEST film festival! 🎥 Mayor Madison Davis’ vision became reality when community members filled Mission Blue on Saturday and by the end of the evening, a total of $30,000 was raised! This is the highest-grossing amount raised in the history of LUNAFEST, which began in 2000 by Luna Bar to celebrate, showcase, and champion women filmmakers. And how cool that 3 out of the 5 Brisbane City Councilmembers are not only women, but were key sponsors of the evening...putting their money where their hearts and mouths are. Our hats also go off to the team of 6 amazing women who organized and planned such a magical evening, complete with delicious concessions. 🍿 🍕 🍫 🧀 🍇 Brisbane, CA Parks & Recreation Department, you guys all shined, as well! We are a truly blessed community and look forward to gathering for more Lunafests in the future, as well as seeing how the Brisbane Lions Club helps distribute the funds raised to assist women in male-dominated fields. What a way to celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth! #brisbaneca #lunafest #shortfilms #byforaboutwomen #womeninfilm #saturdayatthemovies

Join Us for the Naming of Brisbane Baseball Diamond on April 7th @ 11am BY: ALISON WILSON, Brisbane Chamber Director Marketing/Sales alison@brisbanechamber.org, 415-640-9875 The excitement for Brisbane youth baseball is at an all-time high right now as the kids, coaches, and parents can’t wait to get back out onto the field. You are invited to watch Brisbane’s own Brisbane Pirates youth baseball team play on Sunday, April 7th at 9:30am at Lipman Field. Following the game at 11:00am will be a special ceremony to commentate, celebrate, and participate in the naming of the Baseball Diamond Field to Brisbane Lions Field. At the celebration, Terry O’Connell, Mayor Pro-Tempore, will say a few words. Light refreshments will follow. Brisbane Youth Baseball is a great activity for Brisbane youth. Our Brisbane community has built a strong team. Coach Todd Curtis and Coach Dustin Cohn expressed their gratitude to the City of Brisbane, Brisbane Parks and Recreation Department, many volunteers, and the Brisbane Lions Club who have all “gone to bat” for Brisbane Youth Baseball, by supporting Brisbane’s local teams with their time, finances, and energy to keep the program running. Even though it is a simple game that was once was played in the middle of the street with a stick and a ball, it is the support of the community that ensures our youth are supported with baseball equipment upgrades, field maintenance tools, bats, balls, and uniforms. If your Business is looking for a great way to give back to the community with visible results, then why not support the local kids’ youth baseball teams. Please contact Coach Dustin at (415) 298-8644.
