The North Peninsula Food Pantry and Dining Center of Daly City (NPFPDC) is a non-profit organization that since 1989 has been serving residents of Daly City, Colma, Pacifica, South San Francisco, and Brisbane. The primarily volunteer run organization provides bagged groceries for individuals and families in need and during non-COVID times a free, nutritious, hot dinner three days a week. From May 7 to September 15 of this year, we provided 6,906 bags of groceries to individuals or families. When the Dining Center was open we served at least 60 meals each of the 3 nights. We also provide frozen turkeys to families on Thanksgiving and referrals to other agencies as requested by clients in need of additional services.
Due to COVID-19 our monetary and food donations have decreased while the number of people needing our services and the costs to provide those services have increased. For example, in the past we purchased about 34% of the food we distributed to clients. Now, we are having to purchase 68% of the food we distribute. The number of people needing bagged groceries has also increased 54% with new requests almost daily.
COVID-19 has forced us to cancel our yearly Take My Hand fundraising dinner scheduled for October. Many of our regular donors have been closed or struggling since March. With schools teaching remotely there are no opportunities for school based canned food drives.
During non-Covid times we welcome community members to volunteer serving dinner one of the three days we are open. Now we are welcoming financial donations as a means to help those in need and to remain in operation. Donations may be made online at www.fooddc.org checks may be mailed to P.O.
