We could all use a little more relaxation these days and we’re in luck, a new spa has opened just across from the park at 277 San Francisco Ave. I had the pleasure of chatting with the owner of Skin Body Zen, Amber Doyle about her new business and how she made her way to Brisbane.
Amber is a Bay Area native, born in San Francisco and raised in Belmont. She began her career as a massage therapist and developed a passion for holistic skincare. After outgrowing her former salon, Amber saw the opportunity to move to Brisbane and establish her own business. One visit to her space on San Francisco Ave and she knew she wanted to begin the next chapter of her career here. Her 1,400 square foot state-of-the-art salon and spa officially opened on March 14th, the day before our first lockdown. Like many businesses, Skin Body Zen has faced a rollercoaster of openings and closures this year due to COVID-19. However, Amber’s resiliency to make it is strong.
Skin Body Zen offers holistic beauty, skin, and body care in the form of hair cuts and color, nail services, facials, waxing, peels, and massages. Because Amber specializes in skin care, I asked her to elaborate more on these services and was surprised by how many different treatments she offers. Amber explained that she stays on top of new skincare techniques and uses the latest technology to ensure her treatments are highly effective for her clients. She mentioned her Nano treatment, a “new alternative to micro-needling, that allows for serums to penetrate deep into the skin, resulting in quicker, more noticeable results such as reductions in wrinkles and scarring.” In
addition, Amber noted Skin Body Zen also offers skin peels, micro-dermabrasion, and an LED light treatment.
If looking for relaxation, Skin Body Zen provides an array of massages including: CBD, Swedish, Deep-Tissue, Prenatal, and an Express massage. If you want to try something a little different, check out their body polish service or detoxifying body wrap.
During our conversation I mentioned to Amber that many people have newfound skin concerns resulting from mask wearing. Amber acknowledged this is called “maskne” which is a result of the “breath steaming the skin and opening the pores, allowing dirt and makeup to get trapped in the skin.” Her best advice? “Don’t use scented detergent or fabric softener for starters.” Because everyone’s skin is different, Amber can arrange to asses what treatments or products are best for you either through an in person consultation or over Zoom. If you wish to purchase any products, she can ship them to your house, you can purchase them in the salon, or they can be available for curbside pickup. Any products that are not to your liking can be exchanged. She has skincare options that work for all budgets, so there is something for everyone.
In the last Luminary I mentioned the importance of shopping local this holiday season. Skin Body Zen is the perfect place to find a gift for everyone on your list. Amber has gift certificates available which can be picked up or mailed directly to you or your recipient. She also has a number of gift sets of all kinds and in all price points including: lip kits, skin care stocking stuffers for each skin type, shampoo and conditioner sets for women and men, hand and foot wellness products, makeup removing cloths, travel face washes, nail polish sets, and hand-painted press-on nails in small, medium, and large sizes. Custom press-on nail sets can also be created for you!
Interested in booking a service? Make sure to mention you live in Brisbane and you will receive 10% off. In addition, Skin Body Zen offers discounts if you buy a series of peels and are soon to offer something similar for massages and nail services.
